Millen In, Mitchell Out

The club is pleased to announce the addition of defender Ross Millen to the first team squad.

Millen, 21, recently left Livingston and has initially joined Clyde until the end of the season, with a view to a longer stay.

Ross already has a family connection to The Bully Wee as his dad, Andy, featured for the club between 2001 and 2004.

He was also part of the Clyde youth ranks during his school days, but made his first senior appearance for Dunfermline Athletic in 2013. He went on to make over 60 appearances for The Pars, before signing for Livi ahead of the current season.

Barry Ferguson spoke to the official website after concluding the deal today:-

“I had earmarked Ross as someone we’d like to bring to the club in the summer so when he parted company with Livingston recently, I moved quickly. He trained with us last week, really enjoyed it and decided that he wanted to join Clyde. We managed to beat a few other clubs to get his signature so I’m delighted to get it over the line.

“He’s at a good age and he’s already played in a good amount of first team matches at a higher level. He also did well against us in the two cup matches earlier in the season.

“Ross can play in a few positions at the back or in midfield, so his versatility is another a big positive.”

Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that Chris Mitchell will leave the club for work reasons after Saturday’s match against East Fife.

The 27-year-old joined Clyde last summer from Queen of the South and was a regular feature in the team during the first half of the season.

“Chris has been offered a new full-time job and it’s too good an opportunity for him to turn down,” Barry said. “I’m disappointed to lose him, but I certainly wasn’t going to stand in his way. The job is going to involve a lot of travel to England and Ireland so unfortunately it wasn’t going to work out for him to stay on with us at the moment.

“He was unfortunate in recent weeks after getting suspended as Scott Durie came in and did well in the right back slot, but he was great for me and he always worked really hard on the training pitch. We wish him all the best in his new job and we’ll sit down with him in the summer to see if we can work something out then.”

The Clyde boss commented on his other recent addition to the squad, Jamie Watson from Annan Athletic:-

“Jamie is a young player who I watched several times last season when he was playing for Airdrie’s under-20 side. He’s got a lot to learn but he has genuine pace and a lot potential.

“He has time on his side and we will work with him to turn him into a first team player.”

Barry also explained the thinking behind Anthony Higgins, Conor Lynass and Billy Robb going out on loan until the end of the season:-

“I was looking at sending the three of them out on loan at the end of the month, but they all approached me about going out early so that they could get more game time. I really like the fact that they are eager to play so I was happy to help get them out to a club a bit earlier than planned.

“We’ve put them all at clubs that will look after them and that they can travel to easily. I’ll be keeping an eye on them and keeping in touch with the clubs’ managers to monitor their progress.”

Barry concluded by stating that he was still working hard to try to add to the squad again before the end of the transfer window.
