Gormley Gets Off the Mark

Clyde forward David Gormley capped an excellent performance against Annan on Saturday by getting his first goal for the club, with a fine header in the first half.

He spoke to the press after the match and admitted that he was pleased to get off the mark:-

“It was a bit of a relief to get the goal. The gaffer has been telling me not to worry too much about not scoring and that I was doing what he wanted for the team, so that’s been a good confidence boost.

“I think that’s the best we’ve played as a team. We created a lot of chances and I probably could have got another goal or two, but I’ll take the first one just now.”

The summer signing from Auchinleck Talbot revealed that the move into Ladbrokes League 2 still felt like the right decision:-

“To play under the gaffer, Bob and Mark is something that made me come back to the senior game. I enjoyed myself in the juniors but I thought I would give it another try at senior level. I think this is the fittest I’ve ever been and I’m really enjoying it.

“I maybe do still have something to prove at this level. I’d fallen out of love with the game when I left the seniors before, but I’m really enjoying it now and we’ve got a good team here. I’m looking forward to going to every training session because it’s such a good standard and with such a good bunch of boys.”

The 27-year-old was keen to speak highly of his fellow forwards and the rest of his team-mates. He continued:-

“We’ve got the quality in the team to create chances and the three of us up front are doing well at the moment. We’re getting a good understanding and it’s three different types of players, which I think is why the gaffer brought us in. It’s a shame for big Chucky (Brian McQueen) because he can’t get into the team at the moment.

“The whole team is working hard for each other though, not just the forwards.”

Gormley concluded by answering a question about how the Clyde dressing room felt about being tipped to challenge at the top of the league:-

“Some people may have us down as one of the favourites but we aren’t really talking about promotion to be honest. At the moment we’re just trying to get on a run of results and then we’ll see what happens from there. We’re in a good place in the table but anyone can beat anyone in this league, so it’s just the old cliché of taking it game by game.”
