Football Fans in Training

As reported earlier this week, the Clyde FC Community Foundation has recently appointed Tom Elliott to take forward its initiatives.

Tom brings a wealth of experience to the foundation after setting up community programmes at Stenhousemuir, Falkirk, Morton and most recently Hibernian. His association with Clyde also goes back many years, as he recalls watching many of his old Maryhill colleagues play for the club, including Paddy Keogh, Richie McCusker, Andy McLay, Allan Grant and Darren Murray – who all enjoyed a great period with The Bully Wee.

One programme that the foundation is running for the first time is Football Fans in Training (FFIT), which is aimed at supporters over 35 and with a waist size of at least 38 inches. It encourages men to not only lose weight but also have a healthier lifestyle and ultimately become fitter. The 12 week FFIT programme is FREE and participants will also get a look behind the scenes at the club, get trained by Clyde coaches and maybe even bump into the players, manager or a Clyde legend.

The main aims of the programme are:-

  • Increase knowledge of diet & nutrition
  • Improve lifestyle choices
  • Increase physical activity amongst participants
  • Reduce weight and waist measurements
  • Increase engagement in other physical activity

It starts in October and bookings can be made now. If you are keen to get involved or would like to find out more about Football Fans in Training, please register your interest by emailing Tom at tom.elliott@clydefc.co.uk.

In general, Tom is looking forward to the challenge that awaits him at Clyde. He is extremely keen to drive forward the community programme at the foundation, including getting more people involved with the club from nursery children to adults along with working and providing opportunities for people with mental and physical disabilities.

He said: “I have seen the power of what great things can be achieved at professional football clubs when it engages with the local community and surrounding areas. I am excited about taking Clyde out into the community and l have already been out and about to meet some of the fantastic people for are currently doing a wonderful job under the Clyde banner. I’m forward to working with them over the coming months.”
