East Fife 1-0 Clyde
The Bully Wee had a hugely frustrating afternoon at Bayview today, as East Fife took advantage of a host of missed chances by Clyde to claim all three points in Ladbrokes League 2.
Barry Ferguson named the same starting line-up to the one that defeated Annan Athletic last week.
Clyde came closest to scoring in the opening exchanges, when Chris Mitchell’s corner found Michael Bolochoweckyj but the defender’s excellent header was cleared off the line. Moments later, at the other end, John Gibson did well to block a low effort with his legs.
After 13 minutes, The Fifers took the lead when Nathan Austin managed to break free on the right wing and the ball eventually fell to Kevin Smith in the box, leaving the striker with an easy chance to score.
Following that, The Bully Wee dominated the rest of the half but couldn’t take any of the several chances that were created. Mitchell’s deliveries into the box continued to cause problems and Chris Smith hit the bar, before David Marsh missed the target with a free header only yards from goal.
Scott Linton also came close before half-time, with a shot from the edge of the box that just missed the post.
Early in the second half, the home side survived a scramble in the box and the frustration continued for Clyde as David Gormley couldn’t get on the end of Archie Campbell’s cross.
As the match neared its end, substitute Scott Ferguson had a glorious chance to score when the ball broke in front of him in the box, but he couldn’t keep his shot below the bar.
Sean Higgins was the last man to try to break Clyde’s duck, but his attempt to divert a difficult bouncing ball towards goal was unsuccessful.
