Barry Pleased With Early Progress

Barry Ferguson gave an update on pre-season preparations to the official website this evening.

The Clyde boss was speaking following a closed door match against Queen of the South at the weekend, which the Championship side won 3-1. Understandably, Barry was unconcerned about the result:-

“The first two or three matches are really just about fitness and that was the main aim for Saturday’s match, but the boys did really well. As you’d expect we made a lot of changes in the second half so the game broke up a bit but I was pleased with it overall.”

Tomorrow night sees the squad enter its third week of training ahead of the 2015-16 campaign, which will conclude with a friendly against East Kilbride at the K Park. Barry continued:-

“In general, we’re still mostly in the mindset of fitness at the moment and we’re getting closer to where we want to be with that. That’ll be the focus for another week or 10 days and then we’ll start to spend more time on formations and the shape of the team.

“The Highland tour will probably be the first time we start to look at the line-up and formation in terms of what we’ll be doing at the start of the season.”

Ferguson concluded on a positive note regarding the new additions to his first team squad:-

“The new boys have settled in straight away which has also been pleasing. I think it’s important that the players enjoy coming to training, it’s obviously a lot of hard work but we’re trying to make it enjoyable as well.”
