Clyde 1-0 East Fife

A second half header from Scott McManus earned Clyde an excellent win at Broadwood this afternoon, as the middle of the League Two table tightened up ahead of an interesting finish to the season.

Barry Ferguson made two changes to the starting line-up following last week’s win at Annan, with Jamie Pollock replacing the sidelined Paul Slane and McManus returning from illness to take the place of the injured Keigan Parker.

The opening period of the match was closely contested, with little goalmouth action at either end of the pitch, although Pollock tested away goalkeeper Jordan Millar with a long-range shot.

After half an hour, East Fife were given the chance to take the lead when Alan Martin was adjudged to have taken down Nathan Austin the box. However, the Clyde ‘keeper made amends with a superb save from Allan Walker’s low penalty.

As the match entered the second half, it continued to be a tight affair and mainly a battle for possession in the midfield area.

With 70 minutes on the clock, The Bully Wee took the lead when Steven McDougall’s corner found McManus unmarked at the back post and the forward easily found the net.

Brian McQueen (pictured) should have been awarded a penalty following a clear shirt pull in the box, while at the other end Jonathan Page saw his header well held by Martin.

In the closing minutes, The Fifers pushed hard for an equaliser but Clyde held firm and only Austin’s header – which missed the target – seriously threatened the final scoreline.
