Clyde 0-2 Elgin City
The Bully Wee were made to pay for a host of missed chances at Broadwood this afternoon, as Elgin City claimed a valuable League Two victory.
Barry Ferguson made three changes to the team following the defeat at Arbroath last week, with David Gray, Jamie Pollock and Brian McQueen replacing Stephen O’Donnell, Paul Slane and Mark Roberts.
The match got off to the worst possible start for Clyde, as sloppy defending gave Brian Cameron a chance at the edge of the box and he drilled a low shot into the net.
Following that early setback, Clyde went on to dominate the rest of the first half but it was a frustrating period of play as many chances to equalise were spurned. Pollock was the first man to come close but his effort was deflected wide of goal.
Scott McManus had a great chance but put his header wide, before Keigan Parker (pictured) forced Ross Laidlaw into a save and McManus also tested the Elgin ‘keeper from close range.
Early in the second half, McManus was once again denied when his header was cleared off the line and Mark McLaughlin was next to threaten the away goal but he just missed the target.
Parker’s powerful snap shot was then pushed out by Laidlaw but, with 65 minutes on the clock, a rare Elgin attack produced a decisive second goal. A long pass by Craig Gunn caught out the Clyde defence and Jamie Reid was able to round Alan Martin and roll the ball into the net.
Before the final whistle, Elgin substitute Shane Sutherland tested Martin and McQueen saw his shot blocked in front of goal, but the outcome left The Bully Wee in ninth place in the table.
