Clyde 2-0 Montrose

The Bully Wee secured an important three points in League Two this afternoon, as two second half goals saw off a stubborn effort by bottom club Montrose.

Barry Ferguson made two changes to the team following last week’s match at East Fife, with Mark McLaughlin returning to the defence and new signing Paul Slane given a home debut.

Clyde almost opened the scoring inside the first minute, when Scott Ferguson’s cross-cum-shot hit the outside of the post.

Alan Martin then had to be brave to block Ross Campbell from close range, but for the majority of the first half there was little in terms of clear-cut chances on goal as The Gable Endies kept things tight at the back.

The second half started in a similar manner, however Clyde made the breakthrough just before the hour mark thanks to some generous defending by the visitors. A high ball into the box was misjudged by Garry Wood and his back header drifted over Stuart McKenzie and into the net.

The Bully Wee remained in control of the match and, with ten minutes left, an excellent second goal sealed the victory. Following a Montrose corner, Keigan Parker (pictured) broke with the ball and he was supported by Slane, who gave Ferguson a simple finish by finding him with a clever cross into the box.

Brian McQueen could have made it three and Martin made a good stop from close range at the other end, but a final score of 2-0 was confirmed.
