Clyde 0-1 East Stirlingshire

Clyde suffered a disappointing home defeat in League Two this afternoon, in a game decided by an incomprehensible own goal early in the first half.

Following last week’s win at Montrose, Barry Ferguson picked the same starting line-up and included under-20 squad members Jack Currie and Ciaran McBrearty on the bench.

The match got off to the worst possible start for The Bully Wee, with Brian McQueen scoring a horrible own goal. The defender misjudged a high ball and, as he tried to find Alan Martin, headed the ball over the ‘keeper and into the net.

That signalled the start of a long afternoon for Clyde and chances were hard to come by. Scott Ferguson couldn’t force the ball home after Shire goalkeeper Richard Barnard pushed away a cross and Scott Durie then forced the same man into a good save.

However, at the other end, Martin pulled off a terrific low save to prevent the visitors going two goals ahead and David McKenna hit the bar with a close range header.

The second half was dominated by Clyde in terms of possession but there was a lack of cutting edge in much of the play. Craig Halkett’s deflected shot drifted just wide of the post and Currie, who replaced David Gray, had a chance with his head but he couldn’t find the target.

East Stirling held firm to secure the victory as Clyde dropped to fifth place in the table.
