Elgin City 1-0 Clyde
Clyde’s poor recent record at Borough Briggs continued this afternoon, with a single goal proving enough to earn Elgin three points in League Two.
Barry Ferguson made two changes to the team following Monday’s defeat at Ibrox, with Ryan Frances and Michael Daly replacing Brian McQueen and Scott McManus.
The Bully Wee started the match brightly and had several chances in the opening minutes. Kevin Watt couldn’t find the target with a close-range header, amid claims of a push, with Scott Ferguson also involved in a potential penalty incident in the box. John Sweeney then looked certain to score, but his header was pushed away by Michael Fraser.
However, the hosts gradually worked their way into the match and took the lead after 28 minutes when Craig Gunn escaped the attention of Ross McKinnon to meet a cross from the left and finish on the volley.
Elgin also missed a glorious chance to extend their lead just before half-time, but Shane Sutherland dragged a shot wide with only Jamie Barclay to beat.
The second half saw Clyde push to get on level terms, but clear cut chances were few and far between. Sweeney’s low shot was pushed away by Fraser, with substitute Stuart McColm’s cross also hitting the top of the bar.
At the other end, Barclay did well to block Gunn’s shot with his legs as the home side saw out a deserved victory.
