Clyde 1-0 East Fife
The Bully Wee will take a narrow advantage to Methil on Saturday, following an engrossing first leg encounter at a rain-soaked Broadwood this evening.
Clyde started the match well and John Sweeney came close to opening the scoring when, after being set up by Ross McKinnon, his shot brushed the outside of the post.
Kevin Smith came close with a similar effort at the other end, before Michael Daly put a shot over the ball following a cross into the box.
On 36 minutes, Clyde grabbed a well deserved goal. Sweeney’s long pass caused problems for the East Fife defence and Scott Ferguson (pictured) capitalised, eventually bundling the ball into an open goal.
The Fifers appeared for the second half five minutes early and seemed to have a new approach to the match, putting more pressure on the home goal.
Marc McKenzie forced Jamie Barclay into an excellent stop from close range.
Despite being under pressure, The Bully Wee continued to put a lot into the match and Stefan McCluskey’s low drive from a free-kick just missed the target.
With time running out, Barclay produced an even better save to keep out a volley from Craig Johnstone and an exciting contest was soon brought to an end.
