Clyde 1-0 East Stirlingshire

The Bully Wee moved into second place in League Two today, after a narrow win over East Stirling in what was a generally poor match at Broadwood.

Jim Duffy made two changes to the team that won at Annan last week, with Jamie Barclay returning in goals and Neil Janczyk featuring as a trialist in midfield.

Clyde survived an early scare following a mistake by Barclay, with The Shire unable to take advantage of the ‘keeper’s poor clearance. That seemed to set the tone for the rest of the half, as a lacklustre Clyde display failed to produce any real chances on the away goal.

Early in the second half, The Bully Wee took the lead thanks to a much-needed slice of luck. Kieran MacDonald cut in from the left wing and his low cross was diverted into the net off the boot of East Stirling’s Richard Miller.

A stubborn East Stirling side had a penalty claim waved away by the referee, before Max Wright’s goalbound shot was deflected just wide of the post by David Marsh.

With time running out, Bradley Coyne and Scott Ferguson were both inches away from getting on the end of a low cross from Stuart McColm and, at the other end, Barclay was forced into a low save to turn away a deflected shot that looked to be heading into the bottom corner of the net.

Despite the match being tough to watch for large periods, the final whistle confirmed that a vital three points had been secured as the club enters an important period in the season.
