Clyde 2-1 Stirling Albion
The Bully Wee have moved into second place in the Scottish League Two this evening, following a hard-fought victory over Stirling Albion at Broadwood.
There were three changes to the Clyde team that won at Berwick last week, with Scott Ferguson, Brian McQueen and Stef McCluskey replacing the suspended Iain Gray, Ryan Frances and Kevin Watt.
The match started well for Clyde and an early goal came from an unlikely source in defender David Marsh. Following a partially cleared set piece, Stuart McColm was able to turn and deliver a low cross into the box which Marsh diverted into the net from close range.
As The Bully Wee continued to dominate, Pat Scullion (pictured) had two chances to increase the lead but he wasn’t able to get either effort on target.
However, a second goal did arrive before the half-time break. On a counter attack, McCluskey did well on the right wing and he picked out Ferguson at the back post, with the youngster just squeezing his shot home via the upright.
Clyde continued to look comfortable at the start of the second half, but a goal for the visitors changed the flow of the match. Bradley Coyne latched onto a loose ball in the box and smashed a shot past Jamie Barclay to make it 2-1.
The Binos enjoyed a greater share of possession and territory thereafter, forcing Barclay and his defence into action on several occasions.
As the match entered an elongated injury-time period, Stirling twice came agonisingly close to equalising. Chris Smith’s deflected shot hit the crossbar, before Barclay pulled off a fantastic save to prevent Coyne’s powerful free-kick from finding the net.
Gavin Brown was also sent off for a second yellow card before the free-kick was taken, but moments later the final whistle finally arrived.
