Albion Rovers 3-0 Clyde

The Bully Wee suffered a disappointing defeat in Coatbridge today, as The Wee Rovers scored three first half goals to ensure that their 100% record remained intact.

Jim Duffy made two changes to the team that defeated Berwick last week, with Brian McQueen (pictured) and Harry Monaghan – an ex-Hibs player featuring as a trialist – added to the starting line-up.

After an unconvincing start to the match, Clyde went behind to a goal after 8 minutes. A cross into the box was missed by several defenders and Gary Phillips took advantage at the back post, smashing a volley past Jamie Barclay.

Soon after that, the hosts doubled their lead. Stuart McColm couldn’t fully clear the ball and Pat Walker punished the error with a good finish into the far corner of Barclay’s goal.

To complete a terrible first half – which Jim Duffy later described as “embarrassing” – Phillips scored his second goal with a low shot from the edge of the box which trundled into the bottom corner of the net.

There was a slight improvement in The Bully Wee’s performance in the second half and Stuart McColm and John Sweeney both forced Matthew McGinley into saves.

Mark McGuigan hit the inside of the post for Albion before Kevin Watt and Michael Daly both combined to miss a late chance only yards from goal, summing up a miserable afternoon for Clyde at Cliftonhill.
