“A well deserved victory”
Jim Duffy spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk directly after The Bully Wee’s victory over Annan this afternoon…
“I was really pleased with the performance. We worked hard, played well and fully deserved the three points. Indeed, the margin of victory could have been greater if we had been more clinical in the second half. It was a real team effort as at 0-0 Jamie had a tremendous save from Scott Chaplain but throughout we competed well and I’m delighted for the lads.
“John Sweeney was unfortunate with the chance in the first half but credit to Annan’s keeper. John was waiting for the keeper to go to ground but he stood up well and in the end the ball just went over the bar. However, we didn’t feel sorry for ourselves and continued to work hard and we got our reward.
“We really have a young squad at the moment so mistakes will be made and there will be a lack of consistency but they showed today that they are learning. We’ve won two out of the last three and I told the players it could have easily been three out of three but it is encouraging to see the improvement and the boys deserve the praise they got at the final whistle.
“It was a team performance today with no failures, maybe with a bit more confidence we could have added to our lead but it was not to be. We limited Annan at the other end which was very pleasing as well.”
Callum Fordyce made his debut for Clyde and Jim explained his reason for bringing the central defender to the club…
“Callum is on loan from Livingston. Livingston rate him highly and they want him back before the end of the season but I felt he could add to the team. Callum may not be the tallest but he is quick, has a physical presence and is a good communicator which is vital.
“I think he showed today what he brings to the team and he will be a good addition to the squad.”
