Peterhead 1-0 Clyde
Peterhead moved to third place in the IRN-BRU Third Division this afternoon, after winning a lacklustre match at a bitterly cold Balmoor Stadium.
There were two changes to the Clyde team that lost to Montrose last week, with John Kane and Pat Scullion replacing Gavin Brown and Stefan McCluskey.
Throughout the match there were few moments of excitement at either end of the park, with The Bully Wee’s only two real chances of the first half falling to Kevin Watt. Initially he failed to get a proper shot away after being released by a fine Stuart McColm pass, with a later effort being pushed away by the home ‘keeper after he did well to turn and shoot in the box.
The Blue Toon had only threatened Jamie Barclay once before they took the lead on the stroke of half-time, with the goal coming with the help of a mistake by the Clyde ‘keeper. Robbie Winters – who wasn’t picked up by The Bully Wee defence – sent an innocuous looking header towards the Clyde goal but Barclay could only push it into the side of the net.
The second period saw very little in the way of clear cut chances for either side, with Clyde only able to force a couple of half chances in the closing minutes. Bryan Gilfillan couldn’t get a clean shot away after receiving a pass from McCluskey, who then couldn’t direct a header on target after meeting a John Kane free-kick at the back post.
