Late Goal Agony for Youths

The club’s under-19 side exited the SFA Youth Cup this afternoon, following a spirited performance at Tynecastle that ended in a 2-1 victory for hosts Hearts.

The Edinburgh side took a 1-0 lead into the half-time interval, after a busy end to the first period during which Clyde missed a penalty and then quickly conceded a goal through a deflected shot.

In the second half, it was Hearts’ turn to be awarded a penalty but they similarly couldn’t convert from the spot, with Sam George making a fine save. The Bully Wee youngsters went on to take advantage of that, with Conor Lynass scoring a late equaliser that looked set to take the tie into extra-time.

However, an injury-time Brad McKay header for the Jam Tarts cruelly ended the Clyde lads’ cup run.

Coaches Gerry Sheridan, Gordon Wylde and Paul McIlwraith will have many positives to take from the team’s display against top-flight opposition that included players that have already featured in the SPL this season.

Clyde: George; Campbell, Traynor, Doherty, Bronsky; Brady (A. Kane), G. Kane, Daw, Dickie (Lynass); Ferguson, Orrick (White). SUBS NOT USED: Jarvie, Duddy.
