Clyde 1-2 Queen’s Park

Clyde’s poor run against Queen’s Park continued at Broadwood today, as the visitors took advantage of an extra man to clinch three points.

Michael Oliver and Kris Irvine were added to the starting line-up, as Jim Duffy adjusted his team to cope with the loss of captain Paul Hay.

It was the visitors that took control of the early stages of the match, although their goal came via a Clyde mistake. Brian McQueen wasn’t able to clear his lines fully and the ball fell kindly to Jamie Longworth inside the box, who calmly rolled the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

David Crawford then had to be sharp off his line to prevent the lead being doubled, before John Neill almost equalised with a 25 yard effort that Neil Parry did well to tip over the bar.

Just before the half-time break, there was a cluster of action. John Sweeney was shown a straight red card for an off the ball incident but, against the odds, The Bully Wee managed to grab a goal seconds later. Good work by Irvine on the right wing led to a shot being partially blocked by Parry, but Jordan White was on hand to bundle the ball over the line.

An outnumbered Clyde team competed well for the majority of the second half, as chances at both ends became limited. However, on 78 minutes, one moment of incision by The Spiders was enough to hand them a victory. A fine cross from the left wing was met in the air by substitute Michael Daly and his header crept into the net.

White had Clyde’s only other real chance before the full-time whistle when he got onto the end of a loose ball in the box, but he couldn’t find enough time or space to get a clean shot away.
