Clyde 0-1 Peterhead

The Bully Wee’s poor form in the IRN-BRU Third Division continued today, with a home defeat to Peterhead.

New signing Kieran Brannan went straight into the starting line-up and he was joined in attack by Kevin Finlayson; the ex-Clyde man featuring as a trialist.

However, it was the visitors that got off to a perfect start with a goal in the opening minutes. A cross into the box wasn’t dealt with by the Clyde defence and Martin Bavidge ended up with an easy header from inside the six yard box.

A heavy pitch and swirling wind inside Broadwood made it difficult for any pattern of play to emerge in the match and former Clyde ‘keeper Paul Jarvie had little to do in Peterhead’s goal before the half-time whistle.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with The Bully Wee struggling to find any spark in the final third of the pitch. Brannan had probably the best chance to get an equaliser when he managed to get onto a loose ball in the box, but he twice saw his shots blocked as he tried to find the target.

At the other end, substitute David Ross rattled the crossbar and Rory McAllister forced David Crawford into a good block, as The Blue Toon looked for a killer second goal.

A late penalty claim for handball, after Stephen McDonald’s shot was blocked, was waved away by the referee and the three points were set to go to Aberdeenshire.
