PREVIEW: Jim Demands Character

The Bully Wee take on Queen’s Park for the second time in four days this evening, in an IRN-BRU Third Division match at Broadwood.

Clyde will go into the match without an array of squad members, with a total number still to be confirmed. Definitely ruled out are the injured of trio of Willie Sawyers, Paul McMullan and Alan Lithgow. John Stewart is suspended.

A number of players will have their fitness evaluated before kick-off this evening. Gavin Brown and Ally Park – both injured at Hampden on Saturday – are very unlikely to make it, with several others requiring a late check as well.

Jim Duffy spoke to ahead of the derby match and was clear with his thoughts, following the Spiders’ comfortable win at the weekend:-

“It’s not a case of revenge, it’s simply about performing better. I learnt a lot about the players on Saturday and it was a side of them that I was hoping not to see. I was bitterly disappointed. Despite opening the game fairly well we lost two goals in quick succession and we never got going again.

“The character of the players disappointed me; their heads went down too easily and that is what we will address. In previous games things have gone against us but we have stuck to the task – Saturday was different and that was the most disappointing thing. Tomorrow gives us an immediate opportunity to rectify that but we need to be fully committed, get our spirit right and match Queen’s Park who I thought were excellent on Saturday.

“People have asked me to judge the side since I’ve arrived but it is hard to do as I’ve never been able to make a consistent selection. It will be difficult to have any real judgement until we are able to have a level of continuity in our selection but once again it looks like a minimum of three changes for tomorrow which is not ideal.”
