Clyde 1-1 Elgin City

The Bully Wee and the Black & Whites took a point apiece at Broadwood this afternoon, after a closely-fought Third Division encounter.

Nicki Paterson (left) made his home debut for Clyde and Jordan Allan was brought into the team in goals.

The match nearly started well for Clyde, as a dangerous cross by Kevin Finlayson just evaded John Stewart at the back post. It wasn’t long, however, until the visitors posed their own threat and a fine ball through the middle led to a shot being poked past the advancing Allan and going just wide of goal.

Luck went against Stuart Millar’s men before half-time when Adam Strachan’s 20-yard shot was tipped onto the post by Elgin ‘keeper Scott Bain.

The start of the second half produced few chances at either end, but Willie Sawyers saw his close-range header brilliantly clawed away by Bain.

City then managed to edge in front via the penalty spot on the hour mark. Barry Wilson was the man to score after Murray Henderson conceded a soft foul just inside the Clyde box.

On 73 minutes, Millar made a triple substitution with McGowan, Stevenson and Dingwall replacing Sawyers, Stewart and the injured Finlayson. Moments later, the Bully Wee were awarded their own spot-kick following a handball and Strachan stepped up to make it 1-1.

With only minutes to go until the final whistle, a neat passing move led to John Sweeney being presented with a great chance to grab a winner but his shot from 12 yards was blocked by the foot of Bain.
