Queen’s Park 0-1 Clyde
The Bully Wee earned a terrific three points at the National Stadium this afternoon, following a close and hard-fought encounter with The Spiders.
It was Clyde that started the match brightly, with Bryan Dingwall and John Sweeney both having chances to test home ‘keeper Strain, but neither were able to get a clean shot away.
As the half wore on, the play became increasingly fragmented and both teams struggled to create chances. Marc McCusker had a strong claim for a penalty waved away but a surprisingly tentative Queen’s Park side did little to test JC Hutchison, despite enjoying a larger share of possession.
After the half-time break, Clyde looked livelier again and McCusker soon opened the scoring. The striker was in the right place at the right time to capitalise on a goalkeeping error and finish well.
The Bully Wee continued to be on top after the goal and could have doubled the lead; including from a headed chance for returning defender Alan Lithgow.
However, the home side gradually started putting pressure on the Clyde defence and Jamie Longworth came close to getting an equaliser when his shot from the edge of the box flashed past the post.
The closing stages of the match required some dogged defending and goalkeeping to register a clean sheet and a win, but the full-time whistle signalled a great away result.
