Clyde 1-0 Brechin City

Clyde’s first win of the 2009-10 campaign finally arrived at Broadwood today as Paul McLeod’s strike was just enough to seal the three points.

Right from the kick-off, there was a marked improvement in the Bully Wee’s performance from last week and, only a few minutes into the match, Willie Sawyers was incredibly denied a penalty by referee Ian Brines after being taken down from behind.

Thankfully, it wasn’t long until Clyde did score. A Sawyers tackle led to the ball breaking to McLeod in the box and he finished well (left). It stayed that way for a deserved half-time lead.

The second half saw Brechin gradually put more and more pressure on the home goal, with Docherty missing a glorious chance with a back post header. McLeod had a chance to finish the match off at the other end but he blazed over from close range.

In the final seconds, a siege on the Bully Wee goal saw Brechin hit the post and then somehow not convert the resulting scramble, but it signalled an important milestone for the new Clyde team.
