Clyde 2-1 Partick Thistle

The Bully Wee enjoyed a morale boosting win over a full strength Jags squad at Broadwood today.

Five of John Brown’s new signings started the match – Park, Gair, Stewart, Sawyers and Boyle – with Alan McFadden taking a place on the bench. Mark Casey was a late withdrawal from the squad for family reasons.

Clyde competed well in the opening exchanges, although Thistle enjoyed more spells of pressure and hit the bar with a powerful free-kick from the edge of the box.

They took the lead just before half-time, when Kris Doolan beat a trialist in the box and finished well.

McFadden was introduced at the break along with three trialists and it signalled the start of an excellent second half.

On 55 minutes, Willie Sawyers equalised at the second attempt after he bravely won the ball in front of ‘keeper Hinchcliffe from a cross.

It got even better for Clyde five minutes later, when two of the trialist subs combined to score a lovely goal and make it 2-1.

Both sides played some good football during the rest of the match but the full-time whistle confirmed a surprise and welcome win for the Bully Wee squad in the making.

The next action for the players and hopefuls is a closed door match against the Daily Record’s ‘Gie’s a Game’ side on Tuesday.
