Battling On…

Clyde boss John Brown spoke to the offical website after a rain soaked training session at Broadwood this evening:-

“It’s been a positive few days. On Saturday we used around 26 players against Celtic over three 30 minute matches. It was a worthwhile exercise as we saw the players in real match situations against quality opposition. It also enabled me to move a few players on before we faced Queen’s Park on Monday night.

“That game at Lesser Hampden ended in a 1-1 draw and now we are working hard to try and get boys on board for the season ahead.

“This Saturday will see us face our first public friendly and the match against Partick will be a good test for us. It has been frustrating time for me as I haven’t been able to work with the players each day and we have also lacked consistency in our training sessions as players move in and out of the squad.

“Our preparation for the up and coming campaign has been far from perfect; that is of course inevitable as we build the squad from scratch, but thankfully things are beginning to change in that regard. Although we can play as many trialists as we want against Thistle, I’m hopeful that we can announce some signings within the next 48 hours.

“It is a battle, as we just can’t compete with other clubs financially and we are vulnerable to other clubs simply cherry-picking our better performing trialists. I will keep plugging away though until we have a squad together ready to compete.”
