Reserves Derby Success

Clyde qualified for the knockout stages of the Reserve League Cup with a 2-0 victory against Partick Thistle at Broadwood this evening.

The Bully Wee opened the scoring in the 21st minute when a goal-bound McSwegan shot was deflected into the opposite corner by a Thistle defender following good work by Div McKay.

It was McKay who settled the contest and capped a fine individual performance in the 73rd minute when he curled home a free kick from 20 yards out, after Gregory Tade had been fouled.

The match was an entertaining contest with the visitors being denied on a number of occasions by an excellent display by ‘keeper Gerry McLaughlin. Although it was an experienced Clyde side that was fielded, a number of younger players shone; in addition to McLaughlin including midfielder Connor Stevenson, left back Connor Cassidy and forward Jordan Morton.

The only disappointment on the night was a first half injury to Gary McSwegan who limped off with a leg injury after 30 minutes.

CLYDE: McLaughlin, Connor Stevenson, Cassidy, Kettlewell, Lithgow, Brown, McKay, Tade, McSwegan, O’Reilly, Trouten.
