Reserves Notch Three

Clyde took on Queen’s Park tonight in a Reserve League Cup tie and won 3-1. The match was a home fixture for the Bully Wee but the two clubs agreed a switch to the Spiders’ ground, Lesser Hampden.

On a freezing cold night in Glasgow Gary McSwegan gave Clyde an early lead when he tapped in following a mazy run by Roddy MacLennan and a lay-off by McCusker.

McCusker and Gemmill could have added to the scoreline but Queen’s Park equalised before half-time, when Peter Cherrie was beaten at the second attempt.

David McGowan restored the lead after 58 minutes when he was set up by McCusker and scored from the edge of the box, after his initial pass attempt was blocked.

The Spiders then hit the bar and forced Cherrie into a good double save but the Bully Wee finished strongly and Roddy MacLennan found himself free in the box to head in a late third.

CLYDE: Cherrie, Murch, Wilson, Ruari MacLennan, Irvine, McGowan, Trouten, McCusker, McSwegan (Stephen Connolly 68), Gemmill, Roddy MacLennan.
