Mark Completes His Journey

The club will welcome a unique guest to Broadwood on Saturday when Mark Tomberry arrives. The 50-year-old from Wimborne near Bournemouth is making the 900 mile round trip to watch Clyde v Dunfermline in order to complete the achievement of visiting all 42 Scottish senior grounds.

Mark’s 16-year-old daughter, Emma, who is a keen footballer herself, will also be making the journey to visit her 23rd ground!

Originally from Hertfordshire, Mark had at one time also notched visits to over 80 English league grounds. He spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk:-

“Over the course of many holidays in Scotland I gradually went to the various grounds until I reached this happy stage of completing the set as it were. I have also been to 1 Highland League ground, at Cove.

“I hate to admit it but I am 50 and still as mad on going to the football as I was when my father, briefly on Tottenham’s books before his career was ended by injury at 18, first took me at the age of 8 to see Chelsea in an FA Cup Quarter-Final!”

Mark reckons that he has been to over 1400 professional matches in the UK in his lifetime and is a keen sportsman himself, having represented three counties at bowls.

His son Daniel has followed in his footsteps on the bowls scene and his wife of 20 years, Lyn, completes the family. They hope to move to Scotland on a permanent basis soon as, in Mark’s words, they “all love it.”

Everyone at the club wishes Mark and Emma an enjoyable day at Broadwood on Saturday.
