Striking A Chord
With the international break creating some additional time away from action on the park, Colin Hendry took the chance to speak to www.clydefc.co.uk at length this week. Following on from his ‘quarterly report’, the Clyde boss felt that he should comment on the club’s striker situation and focussed on the partnership that did well against Stirling:-
“The break gives us time to reflect and I think it is important to give credit where credit is due to two of our young strikers.
“David McGowan has been excellent for us and is at the moment one of the first names on the team sheet. He has grabbed his opportunity with both hands. He can be proud of what he has done to date and I am confident that he has the right attitude to continue his progress in the senior game.
“I don’t know what position he’ll end up in as he might end up out wide or in the centre of the midfield, but for the time being he is learning the game and developing well as he leads the attack.
“I was glad that we rewarded him with a contract that he was content with and that was important to me. He is a fit lad and has a great future ahead of him.”
Alongside David at Stirling was last season’s top scorer Gary Arbuckle and Colin was delighted for the goal scorer:-
“I was really pleased for him. It was his first goal and he probably needed it for himself. I hope it will refresh him and encourage him to think about what he can achieve in the game.
“As well as the goal I was pleased that he carved out several other opportunities. He could have scored more but it also has to be said that others wouldn’t have had those chances as it was Gary’s skill and attributes that created them.
“The frustrating thing is that we have to drag it out of Gary sometimes. He is a quiet, unassuming lad – possibly one of the quietest at the club – but if things come together for him we could have quite a striker at Clyde and I hope that performance kick starts his season.”
