Search Goes On
Colin Hendry spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk this evening as Saturday’s game against St.Johnstone edged closer: “It’s vital that we get off to a good start. There have been some reports of a crisis but I don’t accept that term.
“People forget how close the games were against Morton and Hamilton. One victory can change things. The Thistle result was a bad one – it hurt the fans and it showed how fragile our squad is but we can and will come back from it.
“The only thing that frightens me, as I try and bring players here, is my phone bill at the end of this month! I think it’s unlikely now that we will have a new face in by Saturday but I am still confident that we will add to the squad by the deadline day. However, it will go to the wire.”
Dougie Imrie has been the subject of much media speculation…
“We have not received a single offer for Dougie. It is not in our interest to sell players. Dougie is a fans’ favourite who is a great example of the young, talented and hungry player that I want at this club. I would not endorse any move even if a bid was to arrive.”
Another player set to feature against St.Johnstone is Neil McGregor…
“He will be like a new signing. I think we saw on Saturday what an important player Neil is to the side. Our squad has been stretched to the limit. I have had to put on YTS boys now when my plan was to faze them in halfway through the season so it is a big ask for them.
“The search therefore goes on for us throughout the UK. We’ve also got another bounce game during the week to look at players. The challenge, of course, is not just to get any player in but to bring in players who can go straight into the first team whilst adding further quality to the squad and that is what I will be endeavouring to do.
“One thing is sure however and that is that I’m looking forward to Saturday’s match against Saints. Owen is a good friend of mine and from 3pm onwards on Saturday we can concentrate on matters on the pitch. Remember that three points will see us go level with St.Johnstone so that is our aim.”
