On The Attack
Colin Hendry spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk this afternoon as the club prepared for this evening’s clash with Queen of the South, “It’s an important game without a doubt. We will be as strong as we can to try and get that vital first victory. We are frustrated at the start we’ve made and the fans I am sure will feel equally as bad.
“I felt on Saturday we got rid of the performance against Raith Rovers. I was preparing my thoughts for the half-time talk about how we needed to use that first half showing as a means of pushing on and getting the points when things again went against us. It is frustrating that in the two league games to date things outwith our control dictated events.
“I’m friends with Billy so we’ll agree to differ on his analysis that he said that Accies were never in any danger. I felt we were in control of the game when they got the penalty – but that is history and we need to move on and take the positives from Saturday’s game.
“Player wise for tonight we will give David Hutton every chance to make it but as extra cover today I’ve signed Peter Cherrie. Neil McGregor is available for selection.
“At the same time, the search goes on for players. I’m basically chasing my tail 24/7, trying to get players in to the club. We’ll have a bounce game tomorrow where a number of trialists will play but it does all boil down to finance.
“People have asked why I did not get this sorted before now, the simple truth is that we are at the sharp end of the stick. I have to sell the dream of playing football. I am asking guys to take that chance to put themselves in the shop window and enjoy playing football. We will be as organised as we can be to turn things around.
“I can hardly offer guys a fair wage never mind a competitive salary. So if it becomes a bidding war then we lose out. In regards to loan deals, managers at bigger clubs do not want to decide on them to the very last minute so again we have to wait.
“We have lost real quality and that makes things difficult but I knew what I was getting into here and I will, for Clyde, attack this challenge every single day to bring success to the club. I appreciate the fans are not happy and I equally appreciate the support they have given me as I start this job but I’m not naive. I know that if results don’t improve then that will change.
“I am working as hard as I can to get a victory and at this important time more than ever we need your support.”
