Working Hard
There was no rest for the squad following on from last night’s closed door win, as they assembled at Broadwood this morning to continue working hard on their fitness levels.
That gave Colin Hendry the chance to give supporters another update via the Official Website, starting with the Stenhousemuir match (pictured):-
“Last night was a good run out and I’ve now managed to see everyone in a match situation; contracted players, players who have been offered a new deal and trialists. We’ve also managed to get a look at a number of Youth Development boys, some of whom will be making the step up to their next level.
“Overall we’ve had a really good first two weeks. There are things that we need to sort and we’ll do it but it won’t happen overnight. The mood in the camp is good though.
“At the moment we’re trying to organise some sort of matches for next week as currently there is nothing. I have to say that it is strange that only one pre-season fixture was arranged for the summer. Usually a manager will have the whole schedule sorted out well before the end of the season in February or March.”
Colin was, as of yet, unable to bring any concrete news on new signings or contact renewals but assured fans that it was only a matter of time:-
“We are speaking to various people about bringing players to the club. We are, however, governed to an extent by the players considering new contracts at the moment. There’s plenty happening there and hopefully we’re close to concluding some of them.
“We are also expecting an answer from James Grady about the Assistant Manager position next week.”
One familiar face at the Stadium this morning was Dougie Bell, who assisted Joe Miller on matchdays last season. Colin was grateful for Dougie’s input to pre-season:-
“Dougie is an ex-professional who played at the highest level. He’s been a great help, particularly at the moment when everything is so hectic. There’s so much to do at this time of year especially when you have just taken over.”
Lastly, Colin gave his thoughts on how he was settling into the job:-
“Everyone is mucking in together to get everything done. It’s been good fun. When I took the job I was under no illusions about what I would be required to do and never thought that all I would have to do is pick the team.”
