Miller Time
Joe Miller spoke to www.clydefc.co.uk this evening. Joe reflected on the season past and his and the players’ futures at the club in this exclusive interview…
Team wise the defence this season has been outstanding…
“Absolutely. Craig McKeown has done extremely well and got the fans’ award but, for me, the player of the season was Chris Higgins. Chris has worked hard and progressed. He has set the tone for others, last season he had indifferent spells but he has been magnificent for us. He is an excellent professional and is a great asset to the club.”
But getting goals has been the problem…
“The main scouting priority for the summer has to be to get a 20 goal striker. Just imagine what position we would have been in if we had someone who was that kind of finisher last term.”
So what is the plan for the players…
“The players will return on the 2nd July and all have been given fitness programmes to work on during the break. Some need to build themselves up more, Robert Harris is one of the players for example who has had a great season but needs to continue to work hard at his physique.”
Some players were carrying injuries at the tail end of the season…
“Stevie Masterton had a slight knee injury so missed out in the last match but will be fine with some rest. I’m glad to say that Neil McGregor is doing very well and now he has to start testing himself further but again he will be ready for the pre-season. Finally, Craig McKeown goes into hospital on the 7th for a hernia operation. He has been brilliant this season as he has carried that complaint all season – to be honest if that is how he plays when he has a hernia then perhaps he should have that injury all the time!”
So there is a question that everyone is asking…
“What, should I stay or should I go?!”
Well it has focussed people’s attention over the last while…
“The truth is the board and I have spoken. We know each other thoughts and I just need some time to think things through. I’m not going to go public on those discussions. I will do my thinking privately and it will be sorted soon as I do not want to put anyone in an awkward situation or mess the club around.”
What does the future hold for Clyde?
“I think the future is bright, the potential of this group of players is mind blowing. I would like to personally thank the fans for their continued support. This campaign has had a lot of ups and downs. We’ll learn from it and concentrate on the positives, like reaching our first cup final for 48 years. At times we played really good football and we brought in some fresh talent into the team after some experienced players left in January. The club is in a fortunate position.”
