Joe Defiant
Joe Miller spoke to the website this evening and commented frankly on the transfer window: “I think we have to be positive. Yes it has been a difficult month to date, but at this moment we have Mikey McGowan, a Northern Ireland U21 internationalist, signed up for next season; Stevie Masterton, Craig McKeown, Dougie Imrie are all committed to Clyde for season 07/08 as well.
“In addition this month we have got David Hutton, who has been exceptional for us, signed, Chris Higgins, who I believe has been our most consistent defender, is staying and Sean McKenna, who is a great prospect for the future, committed to the club. We’ve also added a proven goalscorer in Alex Williams. We need to look at the bigger picture and take pride in what has been achieved.”
Joe confirmed, “We have a few guys in this week training with us to give me a chance to see what they can do at close quarters. If players come in they need to be better than what we have got but I’ll not name them as I think too often we, at this club, have had our business put out in public. If I have news then I will do everything I can to make sure Clyde fans through the website are the first to know.
“It is a new experience for our youngsters they have never known anything like it after all just over a year ago nobody wanted them. Let’s be positive I think it is testimony to the their ability and the coaching they have received at Clyde that so many clubs are interested in them now.”
Joe pointed out, “The last eighteen months have been special at Clyde. We had a truly memorable day against Manchester United, a great cup tie against Rangers, a sensational performance and result against Celtic and our first cup final in 48 years.
“Some have to make decisions whether to continue to work hard and succeed with Clyde or await a team from a higher level to come in for them or go sideways or worse for some extra money. We can’t compete financially with other clubs, that is the reality but we offer players a platform to progress.”
Joe concluded, “With agents sniffing around and others conducting their business through the press it could make players lose their focus and perhaps that happened against Gretna but it’s my job to get them back on track. I will do that and we will be ready for the Ross County match on Saturday.”
