Montrose V Clyde

Clyde travel to Montrose on Wednesday to make their debut in this season’s Challenge Cup. The Bully Wee received a first round bye and are now in a game in which victory will progress the winners into the quarter finals.

Clyde made the trip to Montrose last season in the CIS Cup and emerged victorious. On a rain sodden pitch, a Tom Brighton goal was the difference between the two sides as Clyde progressed.

Certainly the Bully Wee would settle for a similar victory tomorrow in order to gain the first win of the season but despite Montrose’s sluggish start that much sought after victory is not a formality.

Clyde will be sending a strong squad to Links Park, a number of players have had a disrupted start to the season through injury or suspension and will welcome the opportunity to play against Montrose. The Mo’ will be equally determined to gain a victory tomorrow night as they try and recover from a disappointing 3-1 derby defeat against Arbroath at Gayfield.

Although Montrose took the lead through Scott Michie in the 16th minute this lasted only 60 seconds as Roddy Black equalised with a stunning long-range goal. Arbroath then went on to dominate the remainder of the game and put the match beyond doubt when they scored two second half goals through Jay Stein & Jon Voight.

It promises to be an crucial cup tie for both sides and is especially vital as due to the international break the losers will have a longer than normal time to rue their defeat.

Clyde will be missing Craig McKeown and the match is likely to be too soon for Stephen O’Donnell.
