Eddie Happy!

Eddie Malone spoke to the website following yet another powerful display by the recently installed team captain. The 3-1 win certainly cheered the popular defender, “That will stop the rot that we’ve been on recently. I think it was easier because of the decision to give us a penalty though Airdrie made it hard for us in the way they came out in the second half.”

Eddie had a major part to play in getting the crucial opener, “I kept running and the boy starting tugging at me. I tried to keep going and I got my body in front of him. My studs got caught in the ground and I went down and the ref gave a penalty. I don’t know if it was in or outside the box when he started but I definitely got fouled inside.”

Barkey was sent off for Airdrie but Eddie felt it was a tough decision, “I think that’s the rules but for me the penalty is punishment enough. I thought it was harsh to send the boy off but the referee has to make a decision because that is the rule book.”

“I felt that decision swung the game because two teams started well and it was end to end stuff but after the penalty we took control. There was a great delivery from Stevie Masterton for the second and the third took pressure off following a good header from Alex Williams and Tam Brighton (pictured right) was there poaching to score.”

“The gaffer warned us at half time that, with Airdrie down to 10 men, they had nothing to lose and would push men forward and that is what they did. They made it hard for us in the second half but it was one of those days when everything went our way and didn’t for Airdrie.”
