Brechin City 3 V 1 Clyde
A Steven Hampshire double and a late third by a Brechin City trialist striker was enough to see off Clyde on Boxing Day at Glebe Park. A late consolation goal by Craig Bryson could not put any gloss on an extremely disappointing afternoon.
The Bully Wee, who have been on the fringes of the promotion race for a number of weeks, missed an opportunity to build the pressure on leaders St Mirren, who dropped points again yesterday and have picked up only two points from a possible nine in recent games.
However promotion was the last thing on Clyde fans’ minds as bottom club Brechin City ran out deserved winners. This was the Glebe Parkers’ first league victory of the season, giving Clyde the unenviable record of being the only team the Angus club has beaten this year in league and cup matches.
