High Cross Help Ibrox Preparations
Clyde’s preparations for tonight’s CIS Cup tie with Rangers at Ibrox Stadium have been of the highest standards, thanks to the generous support of an old friend of the Club, Mr. Tony Fox of High Cross Forecourt Products.
The Westerwood will remain the base for today’s preparatory activities before the squad moves on to the Glasgow Thistle Hotel in Cambridge Street for a snack this afternoon. After a thirty-six period of focussing on the big match, in the best of surroundings thanks to Tony Fox, the team bus will head for Ibrox at 5.45pm.
Meanwhile, Clyde boss Graham Roberts was doing his best to ensure the biggest possible pay day for Clyde with a series of interviews in which he was not slow to stress his previous Rangers connections.
On the eve of the big match, the Manager reflected on the progress to date with Clyde. “We were doing okay until we let ourselves down against St Mirren on Saturday,” he said. “We never said we were going to win the league. We wanted to consolidate in the First Division and I think we are well on the way to doing that.”
“If my players freeze, they could get a hammering, that’s my only fear,” said the former Rangers defender. They are all young lads and three or four in particular have a bright future and a chance to make people take note.”
“Rangers can bring international players off the bench who will be determined to prove their worth,” said Roberts, “and Alex will have his team well up for the game, whoever he sends out on the park.”
“I always wanted to play at Ibrox and I want to manage at as high a level as possible,” he said. “Clyde have given me a chance for now and everyone has to undergo their apprenticeship, but you never know what is around the corner.
“It’s my first time back at Ibrox in a competitive capacity and, yes, it will be emotional for me. But, at the end of the day, Clyde is bigger than Graham Roberts and I want to go there and win this game.
“But it’s fair to say that I want whoever wins at Ibrox to go on and win the cup.”
