The Incentive Of The Cis Cup

Clyde’s CIS Cup opponents Montrose began their Third Division League campaign on Saturday with a point, following a 0-0 draw with Elgin City in front of 460 fans at Borough Briggs.

It is reported to have been a game of relatively few chances, with any that arose seemingly squandered by both sides.

The previous week, the Gable Endies narrowly lost their Bells Cup tie 2-1 to Ross County in Dingwall, although County were not regarded as having been at their best.

Results for Montrose in their pre-season friendlies, all played at home, have been a bit patchy. They lost 2-1, not unexpectedly, to Aberdeen then drew 1-1 with county neighbours Forfar Atlhetic. Then in two games against Highland Leagiue opposition they won well (4-2) against Deveonvale, but surprisingly lost 2-1 to Buckie Thistle after exerting the bullk of the pressure.

The CIS Cup of course offers the chance to draw a big name club in ther next round and that shared incentive will be enough to ensure that Clyde treat both of this week’s Angus opponents with equal respect.

Tonight’s match at Links Park kicks off at 7.45pm. Admission prices are £10 for Adults and £5 for Concessions.
