Peterhead 2 V 3 Clyde
Ten-man Clyde produced a terrific second half comeback to defeat Peterhead and move into the third round of the CIS Cup.
The visitors to the Balmoor Stadium certainly started the match brightly and opened the scoring after three minutes when key man Stephen O’Donnell’s corner was flicked on and Neil McGregor rose at the back-post to head past Paul Mathers.
It was a lead the Bully Wee held for thirty minutes, until Allan Youngson’s attempted cross from near the left by-line eluded keeper Peter Cherrie, who was making his competitive debut for Clyde.
The Blue Toon went ahead two minutes before half-time when man of many clubs Jamie Buchan, racing through on goal, was pulled down in the box by Chris Higgins. The tackle was deemed to be a last man challenge and the young defender was sent off.
Scott Michie slotted home the resultant penalty to make it 2-1 for the experienced Third Division side at half-time.
Graham Roberts young Clyde team, battling against the odds, equalised in the fifty-sixth minute through cup specialist Gary Arbuckle from sixteen yards out, then the visitors took the lead for the second time in the game when Tom Brighton raced clear to score with a low shot in the seventy-third minute.
A great result for Clyde, and a third round CIS Cup tie to look forward to.
