Working Hard
Pre-season training is continuing and Graham Roberts confirmed that the squad has been further reduced this week to twenty-four but similarly to last season, the Club is not rushing into signing players.
“I want to see the players in a couple of games. We’ve arranged to play Darlington in a short bounce game on Thursday and will face Dumbarton on Saturday in a match that will take place behind closed doors. We can’t afford to make mistakes. Next season will be tough enough without rushing into signing players who aren’t of the required quality and it will be good to see them in action against other sides.”
Graham continued: “It wouldn’t have mattered who the manager was next season the budget will have been the same and we will work to do the best that we can. It has been a hard time as we have had meeting after meeting with potential players. Our search will continue as the potential squad is not just limited to the twenty-four with us now.”
“I have nothing but admiration for the young guys who have been training so hard over the last fortnight,” Graham added. “They have not received a penny but have given it their all but we need to be as sure as we can be before offering terms.”
Graham is realistic about his start as Clyde boss, “I inherited three players and we were disappointed to see another go. I had nothing personal against Stuart but I wanted Joe as my Assistant and he wanted to go to Hamilton so it was probably best for all that an agreement has been reached.”
Graham concluded: “The season is coming quick but all our efforts will be to ensure the players will be match fit for the big kick off. It will be a young side and one that the fans will need to be patient with but the support can be assured that we are giving it our all.”
