Billy Reid Resigns

Clyde Football Club has today been advised by Manager Billy Reid that he intends to resign on 26 May 2005.

Clyde‘s Acting Chairman John Taylor gave his reaction to the website:

“After weeks of speculation surrounding Billy’s future, and despite his own efforts to kill off persistent rumours that he would be moving in the close season to Hamilton Academical FC, Billy’s intention to resign is very disappointing but in the prevailing circumstances is not unexpected.

“Billy Reid has served Clyde well for the last six years and during this time a series of internal promotions reflected the high regard in which he was held by the Club. This of course culminated in his appointment as Manager of Clyde last June on a two year contract.

“It is regretted that from then on he chose to reject the contract on offer. That contract, and the offers made to the existing squad last summer, was the absolute maximum that Clyde Football Club could make available.

“These contracts were deemed attractive enough for several very talented players to accept. The result has been a hugely successful series of performances by a hard-working squad, led with enthusiasm by Billy Reid.

“Clyde Football Club will take a similar approach this year, with as high a percentage of our income as possible being allocated to the playing squad budget.

“In the meantime we take the opportunity to thank Billy Reid for his services and wish him good luck in his future career.
