Clyde 0-5 Celtic
Clyde’s Scottish Cup adventure is over for another year as the Bully Wee conceded four second half goals this afternoon at Broadwood, after holding Celtic to a one goal half-time lead.
Things might have turned out quite differently if Craig Bryson’s tremendous strike on the half-hour mark had counted. Unfortunately the referee had already blown for a foul by Petrov. Darren Sheridan took the resultant free kick, curling the ball round the Celtic wall, only for the post to deny the experienced Mancunian midfielder.
Ten minutes later Bryn Halliwelll couldn’t manage to collect a ball from the left and Varga took advantage to glance the ball into the net and give Celtic a 1-0 goal half-time lead.
Clyde had given a good account of themselves up to this point but the game turned on a forty-eighth minute penalty from Thompson after Maloney had been tripped by Gary Arbuckle.
Petrov made it 3-0 after sixty minutes and after that Celtic were in complete control. By the seventy-second minute it was 5-0 and that’s the way it finished.

Billy Reid’s post-match comments were a mixture of pride and disappointment: “I’m a bit disappointed because in the first half we played very well,” he said. “But we lost a cheap goal early in the second half.
“After that it was backs to the wall and I’m disappointed about the way we lost some of the goals. I’ve no complaints though. For forty-five minutes we gave Celtic a game, but you’ve got to do it for ninety minutes.”
