Pride In The Clyde

At the start of Scottish Cup week Manager Billy Reid took some time out to speak of his satisfaction about the current balance of the small but ultimately talented squad of players at the Club.

Clyde at present have a squad of nineteen players including two goalkeepers, seven in their first season in professional football and eight under twenty years old. It is remarkable that some sections of the media continue to criticise the achievements of this group of players but Billy continues to be focussed on the task in hand and refuses to be distracted. He appears relieved that he has now got more experience in his starting line up.

Billy commented: “Gary (Bollan) is solid and has done a smashing job for me. He showed his experience against Airdrie United and we’ve now got that in good areas of the park with Jones up front, Sheridan in the middle and Bollan, Balmer and Potter at the back. We look pretty solid and feel as though we can give anybody a game but, as I said, we won’t get carried away. The squad is small and it will only take one or two injuries to affect our plans considerably”.

That very point was demonstrated on Saturday as talented internationalist Craig Bryson was substituted causing Billy to play Mark Gilhaney in an unfamiliar role.”Craig picked up a dead calf. He could have probably played a bit longer but with the small squad we’ve got we decided not to take any chances and hopefully he’ll be ready for next week.”

The Website will give a further team news update on Wednesday as the players prepare for the clash with Falkirk at Broadwood.

Remember the Main Stand, for Clyde supporters, will be accessed on a pay-at-the-gate basis; entry to the two other stands, allocated to Falkirk supporters, will be by ticket only.
