Clyde V St Mirren

It’s been a difficult period for Clyde as training has been disrupted due to the weather however there was one benefit to the weekend’s postponement at Queen of the South. Gary Arbuckle is available for selection leaving manager Billy Reid with a full squad to choose from for the match with St Mirren.

“We trained again at Cumbernauld United’s ground and that was affected as the snow was lying in that part of town. Broadwood however appears fine and the match barring any unforeseen weather conditions should go ahead”, commented Billy.

The manager was also pleased with the return of Gary Arbuckle, “Gary was able to train and the extra few days has helped him. Conditions in preparing for the match haven’t been ideal but the players are in good spirits and determined to get a result. As the home team the onus is on us to take the game to the Saints. Both matches have been extremely tight so far and we, despite St Mirren’s recent dip in form, will need to be at our very best to get the points”.

The manager also clarified the situation in regard to Aron Wilford. “Aron Wilford will not be considered for the match against St Mirren and he will be released formally when the transfer window begins on the 1st January”, Billy continued, “I didn’t want to lose Aron. He was young but I felt he still had something to offer us but he just didn’t settle. These things happen in football”.

Billy confirmed to the website that he is working hard to secure the signature of a new striker in time for the Airdrie match but no deal has been concluded and no deal will be done until the transfer window opens.

Meanwhile for tomorrow night’s match that has a 7.45pm kick off. Saints have a few injury worries ahead of tomorrow’s match. Captain Kevin McGowne, Laurie Ellis and Hugh Murray were all missing from the side which lost to Hamilton on Sunday, and it is unlikely that they will have been able to recover in time. That could mean an unchanged line up, allowing Saints assistant boss Andy Millen to line up against his former side once again. Allan Russell often plays well against the Bully Wee so he may end up starting, whilst John Baird will be hoping to have some sort of involvement against his former club.

Elsewhere in the division, the media spotlight will be at Firhill as troubled Partick take on Falkirk. Rejuvenated Hamilton host in form St Johnstone, Ross County will travel to Kirkcaldy in the hope that their win against Thistle wasn’t a flash in the pan while the card is concluded with Queen of the South travelling to play Airdrie United.
