The Young Ones

Clyde manager Billy Reid today enthused about the young talent that is getting a chance to shine within the club at present. Already Craig Bryson has received international recognition and Alex Walker was the recipient of the Bell’s Young Player of the Month award in September.

However Billy highlighted another couple of younger players today. Mark Gilhaney (left), who celebrates his 20th birthday today, and Kevin Bradley; both had parts to play in our victory over Queen of the South.

“Mark has been chatting with me over the last couple of weeks. He’s naturally been disappointed that he hasn’t been starting,” explained Billy. “In truth he hasn’t done anything wrong and has just needed to wait for his turn. On Saturday he demonstrated his ability and tenacity performing in a left wing back role and he helped the team considerably. It is certainly good to get competition for places and Mark is showing his appetite for making a first team shirt his own.

Billy also mentioned the contribution of Kevin Bradley. “Bill Munro (pictured) mentions to me that when we are ahead there is seldom a need to change. The onus is on the opposition to alter their plans. However, Saturday was one of those occasions when we needed a freshness to regain the impetus and Aaron Conway and Kevin Bradley gave us that”.

“Kevin is desperate to play and his eyes lit up when I said for him to go on,” the Manager revealed. “He is a human dynamo. I doubt if he could manage to sustain that level of energy over 90 minutes but his introduction gave the team and support a boost at a critical time”.

Certainly there had been much gloom and doom about the Club prior to the start of the season but, coupled with the results, the introduction of so many quality youngsters has given the Clyde support hope for the future.
