International Call Up
Clyde starlet Craig Bryson, whose future at the club was secured by the actions of the Supporters’ Trust and the Bully Wee Fund, received another boost today when he travelled to Germany with the Scotland U19 squad following a late call up for international action.
“I am aware that we have a very small squad but there is no way we could stand in his way. It is a great recognition for both him and the club,” explained Manager Billy Reid.
The U19 squad is managed by Archie Gemmill and Tommy Wilson and it was the latter who spoke with Billy on Sunday. Craig will train with the squad and will probably feature on the bench in the match against Germany.
Billy added: “We have such a young squad. Gilhaney, Malone, Arbuckle, Walker and Conway are all under twenty. I’ve been careful with Craig and tried not to burn him out by using him too much. He is not a first team regular yet and still needs to work at aspects of his game but it is especially pleasing to see him rise through the Clyde ranks”.
Bryson’s call up demonstrates that a player does not need to play for the Old Firm to be recognised and will surely act as an encouragement for the other talented youths at the Club. Clyde fans will hopefully see the benefit in the months ahead.
