Work, Rest And Play!
Clyde players have been getting a reward for their great start to the season. More work! Billy Reid talked to the website today: “With no game on Saturday we were left with a difficult decision. We decided against playing a closed-door match and have arranged a mini pre-season for all the players, as we believe this will benefit the majority of the squad. They have been working hard this week and will be in again on Thursday before getting Friday, Saturday and Sunday off for some well-earned rest. It is then that we will turn our attention to the Raith Rovers game”.
Billy also highlighted a problem that has existed this season, “unlike other years our small squad has prevented us from taking part in reserve matches as we simply don’t have enough players and we can’t risk picking up any silly injuries. This has though an added difficulty in that some players on the fringes of the first team are not playing regularly. This week is therefore important to top up their fitness. On the injury front I’m pleased that apart from Graeme McCracken (pictured), who is receiving treatment for medial ligament damage, the rest of the squad has a clean bill of health as Alex Walker and Aaron Conway are back in full training”.
Billy is obviously happy at the way things are shaping up. “It certainly has been a great first quarter points wise and I couldn’t have asked the players to have given me anymore but no one is getting carried away. We can’t afford to be complacent. The St Johnstone result was vital; a defeat would have brought them to within four points of us rather than the ten at present. It shows what a competitive league this is and the challenge that we face to maintain the momentum that we have gathered in the second quarter”.
