Post-Match Quotes From Aron Wilford

Goalscorer Aron Wilford talked to the website’s Cammy Macdonald after the Ross County victory about his intial thoughts on Clyde and a bit about his career to date.

“It was nice to get off the mark. It gives you a bit of confidence and a lift in your game. And to be honest I felt better for it. It was a great ball in by Karim and I had time to take a touch and finish it off.

“Karim does all the kind of stuff he did today in training. He’s got great feet and I would be happy to see anyone who can create chances like that come to the Club. He has been training here for a couple of weeks now and he goes past players for fun. He speaks good English and is easier to understand than some of the Scottish lads!

“To be honest I came here not knowing much about the Club. But when I started reading the program and things I realised it was all doom and gloom. But when you look at some of the players the manager has brought in I really thought we could do well. Admittedly we have a small squad so if we get injuries it may be a problem, but the gaffer seems to be working hard to bring players in so hopefully we can keep it going.

“I was at a centre back at Middlesbrough, but I was released after three years there by Steve McLaren. So I dropped down to non-League and tried my hand up front. I got a lot of goals and moved to York City but to be honest for some reason I wasn’t given a chance there and only started four games, so I have to put that down as a bad season.

“I am here for a season and hope to be given a chance to show what I can do. The gaffer kept ringing me up and asking me to come up and I was very impressed with him. It felt really good to be wanted and I thought I would come up and give it a try and I have been enjoying it ever since. I am still only 22 and that’s quite young in football terms so hopefully I can keep my starting place here.

“I have really enjoyed my time here so far and the training has been really good. The gaffer and Stuart have some fresh ideas and every day has a purpose so I would recommend this to any players down south. I had a few options down south and was training at Darlington but I am happy be here and delighted I gave it a chance.

“Last year I only started the four competitive games and it’s been a funny pre-season for me and I didn’t feel too good in my first couple of games. But today I felt a lot fitter and with us having a game on Tuesday I hope to be playing then too. I feel I can win the flick-ons in the air, but I also like to play it on the deck and with players like Karim and Harty making good runs it’s very enjoyable at the moment.

“Coming from a higher level it would be nice to get back there but all I am thinking on at the moment is playing for Clyde and doing well for Clyde. Anything else will take care of itself but of course you do need to have ambitions.
