A Challenging Season In Prospect
A letter issued yesterday from the Clyde Supporters’ Trust to all its members appears to have prompted some rather unhelpful media speculation regarding the Club’s present financial position.
The situation is that Clyde Football Club fully expects to be operating in a very demanding financial climate in the forthcoming season. As a result, every effort is being made by the Board and the Club’s supporters to increase income and attract more investment, actions backed up by the recent appointment of an additional part-time member of staff who has both administration and commercial experience.
It is simply an exaggeration to claim that the Club is on the “brink of liquidation”.
Also misleading is a suggestion that the proposed fourth stand at Broadwood Stadium has been “aborted”. For a number of reasons this development has been suspended; it has certainly not been aborted.
The gist of the message from the Supporters’ Trust is that the problems Clyde faced last season haven’t disappeared, they remain very serious.
That’s an accurate picture, but it’s a picture everyone at Clyde Football Club is determined to brighten.
Playing squad matter should certainly brighten this week with the expected announcement, following a board meeting on Thursday 8 July, of Clyde’s new Manager and his Assistant. Thereafter, it’s full speed ahead toward the acquisition of new players and the beginning of the pre-season friendlies.
